The North West Manufacturers Alliance.
The Manufacturers Alliance hosted its monthly meeting at Dudley Industries on 11th March 2015 with a theme for the morning titled ‘A Common Sense Approach to Business Turnaround’. The first part of the day was led by Gordon Higham, Manufacturing Director, Rentokil Initial and General Manager of Dudley Industries. Gordon and Mike provided the members with a tour of the facility, sharing insights into a number of working examples of good practice, including:-
- Visual Management
- Cellular Working
- Production Scheduling
- KPI Performance Boards
- Problem Solving
Gordon shared the Dudley Industries story on how he and his team took a common sense approach to turning the business around. Gary Sheader, Founder and Chairman of The Manufacturers Alliance said, “The reason the Manufacturers Alliance chose Dudley Industries was not only due to the excellent work the business has done with lean manufacturing but the fact Gordon is a really down to earth guy with an exemplary career history in the manufacturing sector. His straight talking approach and ability to engage teams in getting the root cause of business issues is a great example to other businesses that are leading their organisations through strategic changes.”
Simon Ellam, Managing Director of Heatrod Elements based in Worsley is a member of the Manufacturers Alliance and stated, “I got a lot out of the tour and the good practical advice shared by Gordon. We are constantly seeking to improve our manufacturing facility at Heatrod and we certainly got a lot of best practise ideas from the tour at Dudley Industries. Gordon and his team have already agreed that we can revisit with our production team to help them to understand the benefits of lean manufacturing.”
Steve Crutchley, Managing Director of Peerless Gas Controls based in Flint is also a member of the Manufacturers Alliance and his feedback within days of the tour was, “Overall I thought the tour of the facility was pretty awesome. I felt the visual management Dudley Industries have in place to control deliveries, costs and product quality was so good, we have started to implement this ourselves at Peerless. Gordon and his staff were so willing to share ideas it was fantastic. Thanks guys.”
