We are proud to provide the services of a well-equipped tool room including a 5-axis milling machine and EDM Wire Eroder Machine. Our digital, high precision machines allow us to create your own small press tools to the exact requirements of your project.
Like in most projects, you need a ‘tool’ to create something. In metal fabrication a tool is necessary to manufacture the required parts; it might be in the form of a fixture, jig, mold or die etc.
A tool enables multiple production cycles.
There are two main types of machine tooling which we'll look at below.
Hard tooling involves manufacturing tools from metals which are most robust than most, able to tolerate more production cycles. This includes types like steel and nickel alloys. We most commonly use D2 Steel for our hard tools.
Soft tooling involves manufacturing tools from softer metals and plastics, these are more cost effective and quicker to produce but won’t tolerate as many production cycles. They are often a good solution for the prototyping stage.
Hard tooling has the advantage of being extremely efficient when it comes to mass producing a product. It also gives a better surface finish and a sharper edge.
Soft tooling, has the benefit of being quickly to produce and more cost-effective. However it typically is unable to tolerate as many production cycles, which can be less than 100 tools/parts.
We also manufacture our own jigs and fixtures to support the project design helping us to deliver both quality and value for money throughout all stages of your project.
Production tooling affects product quality, lifespan, pricing and output capacity.
Our engineering team fully maintain our tools and equipment providing you with consistent quality and continuity of supply.
